SuiteCommerce Standard (SCS) is Oracle's managed ecommerce option for NetSuite. You pick a theme, add extensions, and Oracle keeps the core application up to date. It is simpler than SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) because you cannot change the core source code. That same trade-off is why many SCS merchants eventually outgrow it.
Here is how SCS compares with AwaCommerce Next, a modern NetSuite storefront that does not need a SuiteCommerce license.

Design and layout flexibility
With SCS, the theme decides most of the page structure. Changing layouts beyond what the theme exposes means editing the theme or building an extension, and some areas cannot be changed at all.
With AwaCommerce Next, layouts are content. The header, footer, home page, product listing, product page, cart, and sign-in pages are built from modular surfaces in the layout builder (Store Professional or Portal Professional). Combine them with eight curated skins and your brand colors to get a distinct store without touching code. Landing pages use a section builder and an HTML editor.
Features: extensions vs packs
Extensions are how SCS grows. Some come from Oracle, some from partners, and some are built for you. Each one is another piece to test with every release.
AwaCommerce Next grows with packs that are part of the platform and are updated with it:
- Advanced B2C: wishlists, product compare, reviews with photos, community Q&A, back in stock alerts, quick buy, reorder, returns, guest order status
- Advanced B2B: contract pricing, quantity tiers, RFQ quotes, quote to order, CSV order import, invoices, pay invoices, statements
- AI: AI search, AI product Q&A, recommendations, and an order and account assistant
- Promotions, Loyalty, and Subscriptions for retention and repeat orders
- Blog and Stores for content and click and collect
B2B depth
SCS can run a B2B storefront, and NetSuite price levels work out of the box. Workflows such as quotes, quick order by CSV, or invoice payment typically need extensions or a move to SCA.
On AwaCommerce Next, these are standard features of the Advanced B2B pack, built on NetSuite records: customer price levels, quotes that convert to sales orders, tax exemption, registration approval, terms, and invoices. The Multi Login pack adds parent and subcustomer logins with purchase limits. See NetSuite B2B portal.
Speed and SEO
Both options can rank well. AwaCommerce Next is built with server rendering and served from a global edge network, which helps Core Web Vitals on mobile. Product pages include Schema.org markup, and old SuiteCommerce URLs are redirected with permanent 301 redirects when you switch.

- You want B2C, B2B, and a customer portal from one NetSuite catalog.
- You would rather not pay for a SuiteCommerce license on top of NetSuite.
