SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) and AwaCommerce Next both treat Oracle NetSuite as the system of record. Items, prices, inventory, customers, and orders live in NetSuite in both cases. The differences are in licensing, the frontend technology, how you customize the store, and what an upgrade looks like.
This comparison is written by the AwaCommerce team, so we have tried to be fair: where SCA is the better fit, we say so.

Licensing and packaging
SCA is licensed by Oracle on top of your NetSuite ERP subscription. AwaCommerce Next needs only your NetSuite subscription and an AwaCommerce license.
AwaCommerce licensing is modular. You pick a base license (Store Essential, Store Professional, or Portal Professional) and add packs only when you need them, such as Advanced B2B, Advanced B2C, AI, Loyalty, Promotions, or Subscriptions.
NetSuite integration
Both options keep NetSuite as the system of record: NetSuite is the only item master and the only place orders are created.
- SCA uses NetSuite's commerce stack directly, including commerce categories, web store fields, and SuiteScript services that run inside NetSuite.
- AwaCommerce Next installs as a SuiteApp and keeps the storefront in sync in real time. Checkout re-validates price, inventory, tax, and shipping against NetSuite before creating the sales order. Customer price levels, quantity pricing, inventory by location, live carrier rates, OneWorld subsidiaries, tax exemption, and parent and child customers all use NetSuite records and fields.
Frontend and performance
SCA renders a Backbone.js single-page application served through NetSuite's SSP hosting. Well-tuned SCA sites can perform well, but many older sites carry a large JavaScript bundle and struggle with mobile Core Web Vitals.
AwaCommerce Next storefronts are built on Next.js with server rendering and are served from a global edge network on your own domain. Heavy features such as checkout and reviews load only when needed. Faster pages help both search rankings and conversion. For a deeper look, read why SuiteCommerce sites are slow.
Customization and upgrades
This is the biggest practical difference.
With SCA, you customize by modifying the application source or building custom extensions. That is powerful: almost anything can be built. The cost appears at upgrade time, when your changes must be merged into Oracle's new release. Many SCA sites stay several releases behind for this reason.
With AwaCommerce Next, most changes are configuration:
- Layouts for the header, footer, home page, product listing, product page, cart, and sign-in pages are edited in the layout builder.
- Eight curated skins and your brand colors are applied in the Admin.
- Features such as quotes, CSV order import, wishlists, loyalty, and subscriptions are switched on with packs, not built.
- Truly unique requirements are built as custom extensions on Store Professional, outside the core, so platform updates do not break them.
B2B capabilities
SCA can support sophisticated B2B, usually with customization. AwaCommerce Next ships B2B as product features in the Advanced B2B pack:
- Customer-specific and contract pricing from NetSuite, with quantity tiers
- RFQ quotes, cart to quote, and quote to order
- CSV order import and multi-add to cart, with matrix child items shown as individual rows
- PO number and terms at checkout
- Invoices, pay invoices, account balance, transaction history, and printable statements
- Registration approval, tax exemption from NetSuite, and restricted address creation
- Parent and subcustomer logins with purchase limits (Multi Login pack)
See the NetSuite B2B portal page for details.
When SCA is the better fit
- You recently upgraded to a current SCA release, your site is fast, and your team maintains it comfortably.
- You prefer everything, including hosting, to sit inside your NetSuite contract.
When AwaCommerce Next is the better fit
- You are several releases behind and the next SCA upgrade looks like a project.
- You want marketing and merchandising to change the store without developers.
- You need B2C, B2B, and an account portal from one NetSuite catalog.
- You want to drop the SuiteCommerce license and move to modular packaging.
- You are preparing for NetSuite Next.
- You rely on custom SCA extensions and want to bring them along. We can rebuild them for you as custom extensions on Store Professional.
